Security Council decides to extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission in Iraq for a year




BAGHDAD / obelisk: UN Security Council decided, on Wednesday, extending the mandate of the United Nations Mission to provide assistance to Iraq, "UNAMI" for a full year, until 31 June 2014.
He welcomed the resolution, drafted by the United States of America, the contributions of the Member States in the "extension of the mission, including the necessary forms of financial and logistical support and security to accomplish their mission, and called on Member States to continue to provide the UN Mission in Iraq, including adequate resources and support."
The Security Council resolution which was adopted unanimously today, the intention of the Council to review the mandate of the mission within 12 months or sooner, if requested by the Iraqi government, as requested by the Secretary-General to submit a report every four months on the progress made on the fulfillment of all responsibilities for mission "UNAMI in Iraq."
Iraq had formally requested, on 17 July of the current UN Security Council to extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission in Iraq, "UNAMI" for another year, according to relevant Security Council resolutions.
The Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations, Ambassador Mohammed Ali Hakim in the Security Council meeting, which was held today to follow up the report of the Secretary-General on the mission "UNAMI," I am, "I would like to convey to you the desire of the Government of the Republic of Iraq to extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission for one further year, according the lines adopted in the Council Resolution 1770 for the year 2007 text and content, and the mission continues to provide advice and assistance, and upon prior request from the Government of the Republic of Iraq. "
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Martin Kobler, welcomed on July 8 current resettlement of the first group of the residents of Camp Liberty in Germany, consisting of seven people, which amounted to Germany earlier.
